ORACY

What is Oracy?
"Oracy is the ability to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language". Voice 21

At Finlay Community School, we aspire for all children to be able to be confident and fluent speakers and effective listeners. We achieve this by teaching children to talk and help children learn through talk in the classroom:

Why it matters?
Oracy plays a crucial role in nurturing confidence and resilience in young learners. As pupils practice speaking in diverse contexts, they build not only their communication skills but also their self-esteem and ability to navigate social situations. This is particularly important for children who may struggle with anxiety in public speaking or those who are English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners, as structured oracy practices provide the necessary support and scaffolding to boost their confidence.
