SEND at Finlay

At Finlay Community School, we strive to provide a supportive learning environment for all of our children; our staff team are the biggest advocates for the children in our school, and we endeavour to enable every child to reach their full potential.

We place an emphasis on removing any barriers to learning and pride ourselves on our inclusive approach to education. Our team of skilled Learning Mentors work alongside the children to help remove additional barriers to learning. All children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which allows them to enjoy and achieve in line with the National Curriculum and our five core SMILE values: Social Awareness, Mental and Physical Health and Wellbeing, Independence, Life Skills, Excellent Aspirations.

We ensure Quality First Teaching is evident in every classroom and all members of staff follow a continuous cycle of accessing, planning, teaching and reviewing. This approach will enable children to learn and progress in line with the National Expectations.

We work closely with a range of external agencies at Finlay to support pupils, including: Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists and the Advisory Teaching Service.

We are dedicated and committed to ensuring all children achieve the very best they can at Finlay Community School. If you have any worries or concerns at all, please talk to your child's class teacher.

Our SENDCo offers support to all classes, staff and parents whatever the level of need and is passionate about all children assessing a broad and balanced curriculum.
