Attendance at Finlay has improved significantly in recent years and is continuing to rise. At school, on time, every day is what all pupils strive to achieve. Children must attend school 190 days and staff 195 days. As a result, there will be five in-service training days (INSET) when children do not attend school.
Children have a legal right to a full time education. If your child is absent from school due to illness you must let the school know. You can telephone the office (number 0) by 9:00am on the day of your child’s absence. Our Family Liaison Officer checks on pupils attendance every week and if your child’s attendance drops below 90%, she will make contact with you.
We appreciate that holidays cost less during term time and we do promote family togetherness. However, the Department for Education direct schools NOT to allow holidays during term time. Therefore, we would encourage parents NOT to book holidays during terms 1-5 but will consider holidays booked during term 6. A holiday form MUST be completed (available from the school office) and will then be sent to the head to authorise. Please note: No holidays will be authorised during SATs week in Years 2 and 6 & during terms 1 – 5. Holidays will be considered on an individual basis. One of the contributing factors for consideration will be your child’s current attendance percentage. By the way of a guideline only; if it is below the school target of 95% then a holiday will not be authorised.
